Coaching
Many researchers struggle to find a voice with which they are comfortable and that matches the requirements of their discipline, and many have received feedback that suggests that the way that they write is somehow inadequate. There is little writing help for academics, however, and the editorial and coaching help that is available outside the university context is often highly prescriptive and unsuited to academic publications.
I use my experience as a freelance editor and tertiary-level teacher of academic writing to help researchers to develop as writers, to find a voice that suits them and to be able to write fluently in that voice. I work with the researcher, analysing his or her current writing style and unpacking the feedback that he or she has received. We work together on finding a new, comfortable and appropriate voice, using discipline-appropriate exempla and modeling.
